Get ready, Duelists! The latest Yu-Gi-Oh set, Justice Hunters, is poised to shake up the current meta and introduce three incredibly strong archetypes. For the first time in a while, we're seeing a set where all of the new strategies are competitively viable! Forget just one or two top-tier decks; Justice Hunters brings a trio of contenders ready to battle for supremacy. So, what do you need to know to prepare for this exciting release? And how might it all play out at the upcoming YCS Vancouver Yu Gi Oh?
If you're a fan of Fusion strategies, prepare to be enchanted by the Yu Gi Oh Dracotails! This theme expertly blends Dragons and Spellcasters, focusing on Fusion Summoning and setting Spells/Traps directly from your deck. The star of the show, Dracotail Faimena, is a game-changer, allowing you to Fusion Summon a Dragon or Spellcaster Fusion during either player's Main Phase! This opens up incredible opportunities for disruption and swift plays.
The deck's consistency stems from cards like Dracotail Arthalion and Dracotail Gulamel, which only require any Dracotail monster and any other monster in your hand as material! Many duelists are finding that the Shaddoll Yu Gi Oh package works well with dracotails as a great option to keep monsters in your hand. Cards like Shaddoll Beast, Shaddoll Hedgehog, and Shaddoll Squamata can provide consistent resources and even the option to summon El Shaddoll Winda to disrupt your opponent early on. Other Fusion archetypes like Branded Despia and Dragonmaids also have strong synergy with Dracotails, with Sheou's omni-negate and the Dragonmaid package offering strong support for a long game. Players might even want to consider running the Frightfur Patchwork engine, so long as they aren't afraid of Droll & Lock Bird.
Interestingly, two cards, Mysterion the Dragon Crown and Secreterion Dragon from Duelist's Advance, share the same ATK and DEF but require opposite Fusion Materials (a Dragon and Spellcaster, or vice versa). While Mysterion's board wipe effect can be situational, Secreterion Dragon is a one-sided Majesty's Fiend, specifically for Dragons and Spellcasters. In a Dracotail mirror match, this card is absolutely defining, and it even acts as a Super Polymerization Targets! So make sure you pick up at least one copy of Secreterion Dragon!
Are you drawn to the adorable aesthetic of Madolches or the fast-paced gameplay of Spright? Then you'll adore the Yummy archetype! This deck centers around YummySnatchy bringing CupsyYummy, CookyYummy, or LollipoYummy out to play in the Yummyusment world. The deck has similar qualities to Spright because Cupsy, Cooky, and Lollipo can Special Summon themselves from your hand if you control a Level 2 Synchro or Link 1 monster.
One of the key aspects of the Yummy Yu Gi Oh Deck is that all three Level 2 Synchro monsters in the archetype can be Synchro Summoned using a Link 1 monster and any Level 1 monster. This makes the Sky Striker package a staple, allowing you to turn Sky Striker Mecha - Hornet Drones and Sky Striker Ace - Kagari into CupsyYummy Way in an instant! The Obedience Schooled reprint is great for this deck since all the Yummy monsters are Light Beasts. Kuribon the Fairy Spirit and Ukanomitsune-no-Tamayura are free Tuner extenders, and Ukanomitsune-no-Onari was probably designed for the deck as well. Dominus Purge Yu Gi Oh has been getting a lot of attention lately as it might just be one of the best hand trap disruptions in the upcoming Yu Gi Oh Meta. Dominus Purge fits perfectly into the theme alongside Songs of the Dominators since Yummy decks do not need to activate monster effects from outside the field.
Herald of the Arc Light is one of the best monsters for the deck as it can search for any Ritual monster after it leaves the field. This means you can search for some generic options like Sauravis, the Ancient and Ascended, or Illusion of Chaos, which gives you access to Magicians' Souls for extender plays. Lastly, for a deck that revolves around Synchros, it might just be time for Gravity Collapse to shine. This card negates a summon and prevents your opponent from summoning for the rest of the turn! Consider adding a set of Gravity Collapse to your side deck. They're dirt cheap, and can help you win games if you go first.
Prepare for the hounds to be unleashed! The K9 Yu Gi Oh deck is generating immense buzz as a potentially game-breaking force that could redefine the meta. This strategy focuses on summoning K9 Level 5 monsters and Xyz Summoning Rank 5 Xyz monsters.
K9-17 Izuna is going to be one of the most sought-after cards in the set. It helps you send K9-00 Lupis to the graveyard and enables a Rank 5 play. Both monsters can be summoned if your opponent activates a monster effect from their hand or graveyard. This can punish decks that rely on cards like Fiendsmith and combo strategies that utilize the graveyard. The K9 Level 5 card, K9-66a Jokul, can even help you summon out any Level 5 monster from your hand, so some players might even consider mixing it with Crystrons, Memento, Cyber Dragon, and Vanquish Soul.
Vanquish Soul K9 is already a dominant deck in the OCG, and that might come to the TCG if the next banlist nerfs Maliss and Ryzeal. Pretty soon, duelists might even be rolling dice for the effect of Number 67: Pair-a-Dice Smasher. It can even rival the power of True King of All Calamities if you make it with three Level 5 monsters and prevent monster effects and stop the opponent from attacking you. While N.As.H. Knight and CXyz N.As.Ch. Knight are both reprinted in Justice Hunters, there are still a few Rank 5s that weren't reprinted in the set that you might want to consider picking up. Artifact Durendal is infamous as it can be deadly if you combo it with Droll & Lock Bird. The Full Armored Xyz package also has a lot of potential for going first or second, and can Xyz Summon on the opponent's turn with Full-Armored Xyz into Full Armored Dark Knight Lancer.
Speaking of Chaos Numbers, Number C104: Masquerade is one of the best as if you have Number 104: Masquerade underneath it, thanks to N.As.H. Knight, you get a monster negate that takes a card away from your opponent's hand and half of their life points! Then you can steal games with Vanquish Soul Heavy Borger and Vanquish Soul Snow Devil burn damage effect! Number C107: Neo Galaxy-Eyes Tachyon Dragon is another broken option you can summon with CXyz N.As.Ch. Knight. The most important effect of Number C107 Tachyon is to detach and negate all your opponent's face-up cards and prevent them from activating anything on their field for the rest of the turn. It can even force your opponent to interact with you immediately or be unable to play the game!
The release of Justice Hunters marks the beginning of a new chapter in Yu-Gi-Oh! As we approach YCS Vancouver Yu Gi Oh, expect an intense battle between the established powerhouses of the Crossover Breakers decks, Maliss and Ryzeal, and the emerging threats from Justice Hunters. What side will you choose? Will you stick with the best decks of today or embrace the potential of tomorrow? One thing is certain: the Yu Gi Oh Meta is about to become a whole lot more interesting.
