Mega Evolution Returns to the Pokémon TCG in September 2025!

Get ready, Trainers! The Pokémon Company International has announced the highly anticipated return of Mega Evolution with the upcoming Mega Evolution Series Pokémon! The new Pokémon TCG expansion, simply titled Mega Evolution, will launch on September 26, 2025, at participating retailers worldwide. This news, initially revealed on Pokémon Day 2025 Mega Evolution announcement, marks a thrilling comeback for these powerful Pokémon.

Mega Evolution is Back!

The Mega Evolution Series Pokémon brings back the fan-favorite Mega Evolution Pokémon to the Pokémon TCG. These formidable Pokémon were last seen in the Sun & Moon Series, and their return promises exciting new strategies and powerful cards.

What to Expect in the Mega Evolution Expansion

In the Mega Evolution expansion, players can look forward to discovering and collecting cards featuring powerful Pokémon TCG Mega Evolution ex, including the coveted Mega Lucario ex card and the graceful Mega Gardevoir ex card. While these Pokémon TCG Mega Evolution ex boast increased HP and attack damage, they come with a risk: your opponent takes three mega evolution prize cards when they are Knocked Out.

Interestingly, Mega Evolution Pokémon ex will appear as Mega Evolution Basic Pokémon, Stage 1 Pokémon, or Stage 2 Pokémon, streamlining the evolution process. For example, Mega Lucario ex evolves directly from Riolu, rather than from Lucario.

Ultra Rare Cards and New Art Styles

Keep an eye out for the new mega evolution card art featured on ultra rare mega evolution cards! These cards may feature a silhouette of the regular version of the Pokémon – for example, Lucario appearing in silhouette on the ultra rare mega evolution cards featuring Mega Lucario ex. Furthermore, the Mega Evolution expansion will extend ultra rare mega evolution cards beyond Pokémon and Supporter cards, with the introduction of pokemon tcg item cards, pokemon tcg stadium cards and pokemon tcg tool cards as ultra rares.
