Celebrating Three Years of One Piece TCG with OP13 Carrying On His Will

The winds of change are blowing strong as we approach a momentous occasion: the third anniversary of the global release of the One Piece TCG! To commemorate this milestone, we're diving deep into the fiery spirit of brotherhood and ambition with a detailed look at the highly anticipated OP13 Carrying On His Will set. Three years may seem a short time compared to the sprawling 28-year legacy of the original manga, but it represents a vital foundation for the One Piece TCG. The first five years are crucial for any trading card game, and One Piece isn't just surviving, it's thriving! Bandai's flagship is setting sail for even greater horizons – even if the legendary One Piece remains a mystery.

The Arrival of Legends: Gol D Roger OP13 and Imu OP13

The rise of this incredible card game continues with the 13th core booster set, Carrying On His Will (OP13). This set is generating immense buzz, primarily due to the long-awaited arrival of two titans: Gol D Roger (OP13-003) and Imu (OP13-079). These two cards alone are enough to shake up the meta! But the excitement doesn't stop there. OP13 also features reimagined versions of the iconic three brothers and introduces a brand new Jewelry Bonney Leader to the fray. Get ready for a whirlwind of new strategies and deck building possibilities.

A Visual Feast: Special Rares and Anniversary Artwork

Carrying On His Will (OP13) isn't just about powerful cards; it's also a visual spectacle. While the manga rares are certainly present, the real treasures lie elsewhere. Prepare to be amazed by gold-emblazoned alternative artwork for Roger's Divine Departure (OP13-076), wanted poster variants of beloved characters, and special rare "Character Edition" cards for some of the most frequently played characters associated with each Leader. And if you're extremely fortunate, you might stumble upon one of the alternative artwork variants of the Five Elders! These special cards have been meticulously illustrated by Gege Akutami, the creator of Jujutsu Kaisen, in celebration of the One Piece TCG anniversary. These cards are truly special and will become centerpieces of any collection.

Preparing for OP13: Key Cards to Consider

With the One Piece TCG OP13 release date fast approaching on November 7th, now is the time to prepare. While each new Leader benefits from cards within their respective sets, there are numerous hidden gems scattered throughout One Piece history that can find new life in these decks. If you're intrigued by any of the new Leaders, here's a sneak peek at some cards you should consider acquiring.

Cards for Red Green Luffy OP13

Monkey D Luffy (OP13-001) is back with a new approach! This iteration of the Straw Hat captain focuses on control, banking DON!! into the opponent's turn to boost the stats of your Leader or {Straw Hat Crew} Characters defensively. This leads to a deck that leans less on counter cards and aims to reset DON!! to active through various effects. Charlestone (OP05-038) stands out as a potentially underrated event for this strategy. Since you'll be keeping DON!! open during the opponent's turn, using a two-cost counter becomes easier. Charlestone (OP05) provides a +4000 counter and can set three DON!! to active by trashing a card. This synergizes perfectly with Luffy, allowing you to significantly increase your Leader's power and protect a Straw Hat in the same turn. Roronoa Zoro (OP06-118), recently reprinted in PRB02, is also a crucial addition. {Straw Hat Crew} Characters are vital in Monkey D Luffy (OP13-001) decks because they're the only characters he can protect. Roronoa Zoro (OP06) benefits from this buff and serves as a powerful endgame threat: spend three DON!! to swing three times each turn, and save as much DON!! as you want for defense. If you plan to build Luffy, Zoro is a must-have.

Cards for Black Imu OP13

Imu (OP13-079) heavily relies on support cards from Carrying On His Will, as their Leader ability fundamentally alters the game's rules. Imu filters away in the early turns to enable the Five Elders to dominate the board. Cards like St. Shepherd Ju Peter (OP13-084) and Saint Ethanbaron V. Nusjuro (OP13-080) become incredibly powerful when you have ten or more cards in your trash. You'll be summoning them with Five Elders (OP13-082) to overwhelm your opponents. While The Empty Throne (OP13-099) will likely be the primary Stage card, Mary Geoise (OP05-097) is a valuable option against more aggressive matchups. Mary Geoise (OP05) makes your Celestial Dragons more accessible early in the game, allowing you to play St. Jaygarcia Saturn (OP13-083) or St. Topman Warcury (OP13-089) on three DON!! and activate Five Elders (OP13-082) immediately on ten DON!!

Cards for Blue Red Portgas D Ace OP13

Portgas D Ace (OP13-002) is another highly anticipated Leader from Carrying on Their Will (OP13), and is already showing strength. This 6000-power Leader hits hard, weakens enemy attackers, and constantly refills your hand. This dual approach allows Ace to consistently reach the endgame and deliver devastating blows. Marco (PRB02-008) is a key component of this strategy. This searchable four-cost 6000-power blocker draws you two cards, and naturally complements Ace's Leader ability to draw a third card when your opponent gets through the wall. Additionally, Starter Deck 22: Ace and Whitebeard contains essential cards, particularly I Am Whitebeard!! (ST22-015), which allows you to deploy powerful characters early. When your options include cards like Edward Newgate (OP08-043) and Edward Newgate (OP13-042), it's hard to resist. Izo (ST22-002) is another impressive card from the starter deck, providing consistency by searching for Marco or I Am Whitebeard!!

Cards for Red Purple Gol D Roger OP13

The One Piece TCG welcomes its first-ever 7000-power Leader, Gol D Roger (OP13-003). The King of the Pirates arrives in style, sporting a unique stat line. However, you'll have a permanent -2000 debuff while below nine DON!!, and one DON!! from your deck will automatically attach to Roger each turn until you reach ten. As a result, this deck focuses on mitigating these drawbacks until it's time to unleash its full power. Shanks (OP09-004) is crucial for reaching 10 DON!! consistently. This card provides a board-wide debuff, making it harder for opponents to land hits. These debuffs stack, invalidating your opponent's plans and rendering your Leader untouchable. Shanks can also eliminate problematic characters or deal significant damage upon being played. Gol D Roger (OP09-118) is another phenomenal card, creating lose-lose scenarios for opponents reliant on blocker cards by threatening to win the game immediately after reducing a player's life to zero. Shanks (OP13-065) can tutor Gol D Roger (OP09) up, making it easy to secure victory.

Cards for Red Black Sabo OP13

Sabo (OP13-004) is one of the less hyped Leaders from OP13 but is still finding success. The Leader starts at a low 4000 power until you've taken your first two Life of damage, making it difficult to attack early. However, Sabo and all of your characters gain +1000 above their base once you've established an eight-cost character and attached a DON!! card. The deck plays uniquely, but the Revolutionary Army benefits from another solid Leader. Revolutionary Army HQ (OP05-021) allows you to funnel situational tools from your hand to search for important characters, while synergizing with cards like Monkey D Dragon (OP12-094). Hack (OP12-089) is the cheapest way to activate Sabo's upside. A 5000-power blocker is already valuable, but Sabo quickly turns Hack into a 6k that can K.O. an opposing threat.

Cards for Yellow Bonney OP13

Egghead arc Bonney is an interesting leader. Her Leader ability is fairly low impact in comparison to other yellow options, but it's incredibly easy to build around and enable. There's many strong Trigger characters in the game, and Bonney doesn't force you to lean into a particular synergy to do good work, so you can just "play the good cards" and be reasonably happy about it. Nami (OP08-106) is one of the best Trigger payoffs, providing removal and synergizing with Jewelry Bonney (OP13-100). Kikunojo (OP06-104) is another renowned yellow Trigger, providing a 6000-power body for four DON!! and attaching two DON!! to your Leader. This card provides extra life and cards, synergizing with Bonney's Trigger effects.
